The 7 Summits Initiative

Ema, our Chair of the Board, summited Mount Everest on May 13, 2022 to finish what she started with the 7 Summits for Mental Health campaign!

Funds raised while climbing the 7 Summits were donated to CAMH for their Drop-in Bridging Clinic.

Climbing The 7 Summits

Ema Dantas, founder of Peaks for Change, committed to climbing the Seven Summits of the World to raise awareness and fundraise to end the stigma of mental health.

This was a daunting challenge but one that helped Peaks for Change raise money for CAMH’s New Bridging Clinic in Ontario.

The Seven Summits turned into Eight (to cover the Bass and Messner versions of the 7 summits).

Did You Know?

Completing this feat is not a common occurrence. Worldwide, a little more than 50 woman have ever completed the 7 Summits. It is a task that requires great physical endurance and drive, along with a mental affinity to experience new and exciting places and tasks!

The 7 Summits Initiative Aimed to Raise $700,000 Over 2 Years

Funds were donated to CAMH Foundation in direct support of the groundbreaking CAMH Urgent Drop-in Clinic. This clinic dramatically improves access to timely care and support a wide range of people with mental illness, including depression and psychosis. The clinic also lessens repeat emergency care visits by ensuring continuity of care and availability to anyone regardless of age, gender or diagnosis.

In short, the Urgent Drop-in Clinic will transform the experience of seeking care after a crisis.”, CAMH.

CAMH states:

“The next breakthrough in mental health will come from camh”

We believe that as well. CAMH is not only Canada’s largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital, it is also one of the world’s leading research centres for addiction and mental health.

Adventurous volunteers climbed the Seven Summits to raise $700,000. All funds raised for this challenge were directed to CAMH, as all costs related to the expeditions themselves are 100% privately funded!
